As the sun descended over the dunes yesterday, yet another crowd gathered around the dark pit of the Potato Farm arena for Fight Night. It’s been nearly a moon or more since I was able to attend Fight Night. Looking about the assembled scavengers, I gladly noticed even more new faces coming to watch and participate. Thus, I was even more excited to see what would happen this evening. The Tin Man certainly caught me off guard when he tapped me on the shoulder with his steel fire-staff, directing me to join the ranks of the fighters. These old bones haven’t been in a Fight Night for some time but clearly the Tin Man wanted a well-balanced number of fighters to sate his bloodthirsty sport, and I’ll admit I enjoyed stepping back into the blood-stained pit. I can’t say these old bones enjoyed the steel spikes piercing my flesh and pumping me full of poison at the very end. I was pleased, however, to witness Psycho Baroque achieve victory from where I lay in the corner before passing out from my wounds.
Psycho Baroque is an old face around the Wastelands. A man of few words, this scavenger was mostly a loner in his early days in our settlement, keeping to himself as he scoured the junk for useful scraps. Eventually, he formed the Renegades and slowly recruited skilled warriors into its democratic ranks with silent cunning. The Renegades also generally keep to themselves although they been known to have a small rivalry with the Black Market during their day-to-day hunts for salvage.
Psycho has always been an eager and persistent contestant in many many Fight Nights, fighting hard and nearly winning many times only to be denied by an adversary or the Arena itself. Yesterday, however, he patiently survived a hard-fought and well-earned victory against myself and Agustsa Jun in the final fight upon the deadly Sandworm arena configuration. Psycho Baroque, accepting victory with his customary stoicism, proudly joins his fellow Renegades, Robin Varriale and Dassina Andel, as Fight Night champions.
Contestants in yesterday’s Fight Night were Aposiopesis Fullstop, Zander Paule, Agustsa Jun, Sandusky Kayvon, Daimanda Gustafson, Dawnevea Destiny, Takiro Uriza, and Psycho Baroque.
