The Weekly (Ha!) Pulp (9-10-10)

After an extended hiatus due to an absurd amount of Real Life Goings-On, I return with a new issue of the Weekly Pulp!  For any newer people who may not have seen this updated before, The Weekly Pulp is a brief rundown of current and upcoming happenings in The Wastelands.  If you’ve got an event you’d like to see mentioned, roleplay rumors or namedrops, or any other interesting tidbits, IM me in-world or send an email to [email protected] .

UPCOMING EVENTS: At 3pm SLT, gather around the dire Arena in Hambone Slash for another gory and glorious  Fight Night.  A recent change in the rules lets even the spectators get in on the action:  equip any melee weapon and stand close to the fence, and prepare to beat down any sneaky combatant who tries to avoid the fight by walking the inner ledge of the chainlink fence.   As if that weren’t dangerous enough, the terrible Tin Man has created a new Arena feature: a truly random map.  There’s no guarantee of an empty space outside the cage – or of any clear path at all!  For those who survive, the night’s winner will receive L$1000 and a snazzy trophy; second place receives L$500, and third place gets L$250.  Also, even if you don’t have a microphone, there’s usually some amusing commentary (and abject randomness) happening on Voice, so be sure to turn it on if you can!

At 5pm SLT, Aposiopesis Fullstop will be DJing once again from a location yet to be announced, blasting an upbeat assortment of miscellaneous music.  She is always open to playing new venues, however, so anyone who’d like to host it can send her an IM.

But the weekend’s events don’t end then!  The Pathfinder pen-and-paper roleplaying group run by NeoBokrug Elytis has been moved to Sundays from 10am to 2pm SLT.  The players are well into the second book of the adventure, and the mysteries continue to pile up.  An insidious disease is infecting the populace of Korvosa, and the widowed Queen has created a new legion of Plague Doctors with the power to imprison – or to kill.  However, the plague may not be of natural origin….  The adventurers must find the cause of the plague, ferret out the people responsible for and profiting by it, and attempt to bring them to justice.  Spectators are welcome!

If you prefer more visceral action, Sunday will also feature Fist Wrap Fight Night, an unofficial wraps-only punch-up held beneath the Museum in the Wastelands Proper.  Rounds last three minutes, and the person with the lowest health loses — it runs on the honor system, so don’t be a dick.  Each fighter puts a WL: food item into the pot, and the winner takes it all.   Fighting begins at 10:30 am SLT and lasts until 11:30.

Shortly afterwards, from 3 to 6pm SLT, show some love to North Yard as it hosts a festival of music featuring DJs Diamanda Gustafson and Aposiopesis Fullstop.  One of the Wastelands’ most meticulous creations, it’s perhaps the least-explored.  If you haven’t had a run around the decrepit buildings, toppling telephone poles, and gorgeous natural-looking terraforming, come by, hang out, have fun, and help make sure it sticks around a while. 100% of the donations will go to tier costs, and builder Vikki Placebo may have goodies for those who drop a little something in the tin.   Or at least she and the other Reavers won’t eat your face.  Today.

Also on Sunday, at an as-yet-unannounced time, Nino Bollisima will be hosting a Salvage Auction from his trading post known as The Pawn Shop in the Wastelands.

EVENTS HIGHLIGHTS: It was another fast-paced Fight Night, with the return of many old faces and a good handful of new spectators, as well.  After many rounds of intense combat, VoidTraveler Seetan came in first, Tokiko Tigerpaw took second place, and Dassina Andell came in third.

PROJECTS: Though quiet recently, the Wastelands Public Works department is still at work on new items, features, and textures for the community.  No new meetings have been announced, but members are invited to keep at work on whatever tasks they’ve taken, and to keep an eye on the job board for new ideas.  Don’t forget that all Wastelands residents can trek to the Heapkeeper’s Shack in the Junkyard, where everything the WLPW has made so far is available for free – just wear your Wastelander tag and click one of the various pyramids.

ESTATE NEWS: The Summer Land Sale has come and gone, but there are still plots available for those who’d like to become a resident of The Wastelands!  Check the Land Store to see the latest on what parcels are available, the costs, and to TP directly to the site.

Don’t forget to keep an eye out for this month’s Land Token!  One gets put into the salvage spawn every month, and each one is redeemable “for a 512, valued around L$6625,” according to Neo himself.  If you’re the lucky finder, you can use the token on your current tier if you have land, on a new plot if you want land, or can be even traded or sold to others.  Or you can hoard them away for some future purpose.

RP NAME-DROPS: The Dodgers seem to have dispersed from their colony known as Dodgertown, which once took up much of Hambone Slash, and little has been seen of the strange creature known as Barrel Dok nor many of the clan members.
Meanwhile, by the eastern border of the Wastelands, a fellow known as Mutt ((Nino Bollisima)) and his associates known as the Colonists have established The Pawn Shop, a trading area and diner.  All visitors are welcome, and will soon be able to sell their wares once they drag together some booths — but all visitors are asked to stow their weapons.
A few of the strange and secretive Reavers have emerged from North Yard and have been sighted on the streets of town.  Locals are advised to be on their guard.
