KittyKat Borkotron passed away on October 12 after many years of illness. On the following Saturday, Wastelanders new and old gathered at The Bunker to celebrate her memory by sharing pictures and stories.

[13:04:34] NeoBokrug Elytis: When I learned that she passed away a few days ago, I was in shock. She was always very outgoing and helpful, even when she chopped you down on the 1st day you put the game HUD on. That was her thing, here at least. She was also a huge presence in the DCFW wrestling league.

[13:11:01] Dassina Andel: KittyKat was one of the very first people I met when I came to WL, and just like most everyone’s first arrival, I got attacked on sight by her. But I managed to hold my own.
[13:12:21] Dassina Andel: Honestly, I knew her mostly for fighting. In the very early days, there was the “war” between the Black Market ghouls, and the Renegades. There were quite a few long, drawn-out skirmishes between the two groups, and she was there, chasing me down, or vice-versa.
[13:13:50] Dassina Andel: We never really had many RP experiences, but her and I discussed fighting techniques, and sparred together many a day.
[13:14:46] Dassina Andel: After a time, she officially became a Renegade… not so much for the group ideology, but because she loved Fight Night.
[13:15:25] Dassina Andel: I’ll admit, she could kick my ass from one end of the Arena to the other. One of the best damn fighters I’ve ever gone up against.
[13:16:07] Dassina Andel: It saddens me to no end, because I know, we’ll never get to have “one more match” together.

[13:18:13] NeoBokrug Elytis: I don’t expect anyone to be ready. No one really can be. If you have to say something, the hardest thing is just starting.

[13:19:36] Aposiopesis Fullstop: In some ways, it feels silly to be unprepared. Death is everyone’s inevitable. And, for some, we know it’ll come more on the soon side.

[13:23:23] Aposiopesis Fullstop: IRL, KittyKat had a variety of health problems, including muscular dystrophy, and was on a ventilator. But there wasn’t much that kept her down – even when led to further infections and health problems, She wasn’t shy about sharing that, and later even had a YouTube vlog where she’d relay some of her life and activities. Through it all, she kept logging in and doing what she could, for as long as she could halfway see. That’s really the only reason she’d been away: waiting for cataract surgeries. She wasn’t just on Road Patrol here in The Wastelands, and a preeminent figure of the SL wrestling federation – she also volunteered at The Shelter, helping new users get to know SL.
[13:24:35] Aposiopesis Fullstop: She wasn’t just out to keep doing HER thing for as long as she could. Part of her thing was helping others learn what THEIR thing was, and damn well do it, as well. Sometimes through calm, understanding encouragement. Sometimes through braining you with a stick.
[13:26:29] Aposiopesis Fullstop: KatBork had a morbid streak a mile wide. She wasn’t always a Ghoul here – she started out as a neko Manimal. But I think she embraced that inevitable decay, and saw it as all the more impetus to live while living.
[13:28:18] Aposiopesis Fullstop: She was the Ghoulcat, the Plaig Cat, one of the Patients Zero for Rustmouth – perhaps the most effective one, because while others went many places, she was more likely to sit and talk a while. I remember sitting in Hambone Slash with her, contracting it for the first time, and us eagerly-OOC, miserably-IC, trying to figure out what it was and how it worked and what could be done, wondering what came next.
[13:29:23] Aposiopesis Fullstop: She loved books, and she loved stories, and she never shied away from the sorts of conflict that would make for an interesting tale.
[13:31:42] Aposiopesis Fullstop: But she’d also try to mediate the more serious and unpleasant drama between people, out of character, as much as she could. She walked between a lot of groups, a lot of worlds. And she’ll probably never know all the ways large and small that she made everyone’s life just that much better. And funnier – she had a wit as sharp as her weapons. (And teeth.)
[13:34:24] Aposiopesis Fullstop: So it’s hard to believe she really is gone. That she won’t have that comeback she’d long been wanting.
[13:35:23] Aposiopesis Fullstop: One of the last things she said to me inworld, a couple years ago, was how much she missed just… being here, chatting with friends, being with everyone.
[13:35:45] NeoBokrug Elytis: That is something she told me too.
[13:35:54] Aposiopesis Fullstop: And it’s hard not to think all those silly thoughts of “fairness,” and how this isn’t.
[13:37:31] Aposiopesis Fullstop: But she got dealt a lot of unfair hands in her time. But she kept herself in the game as well as she could. She did her best to focus on the good there still was, and to make more of that good for more people.
[13:39:20] Aposiopesis Fullstop: I’m glad I got to know her, and I hoped I’d get to visit in person. But as long as we do keep remembering her, and the stories, and all the wonderful strangeness of the cat who came back even from being dead… well, death is always a little vague here, isn’t it.

She knew of her disabilities, and the inevitability of it all. Maybe that’s why she was a ghoul here. She pushed back all of that as far as she could. She lived the full nine lives, squeezing out ever last drop, hardly ever flinching in the face of it all. And yet we’re all privileged to have her choose to spend her time with us.
