Below is a short summary of the latest Community Meeting, followed by its chat logs – which have been gently edited for formatting, to put questions and answers in bold for easy skimming, and to omit greetings and farewells and other such asides. Meetings are hosted by Estate owner NeoBokrug Elytis at 2:00 pm on the first Saturday of every month at The Potato Farm in The Wastelands, and the discussion is typically divided into three main topics: Estate, Game, and Roleplay & Events. Everyone is welcome to attend!
ESTATE:
➳ Occupancy continues to grow, even though event attendance has been low. People are busy, but still want a place to call home.
➳ North Yard’s rebuild is now complete – with some underwater features and a couple easter eggs for those familiar with older lore…
➳ Neo is still working on a system to make all of a resident’s tier meters due on the same day.
➳ The Northgate Community Gateway is Neo’s primary focus for the rest of the year.
➳ Northgate is not his sole focus, though: the Sand Seas rebuild is also on the agenda.
Other Estate Update!
➳ Neo has been entrusted with the steampunk themed estate of Caledon after Desmond Shang, its original owner and Guvnah, stepped down.
➳ Caledon and The Wastelands have long been “sister cities” – Desmond gave Neo early encouragement to start The Wastelands, and there are various Caledon artifacts around the Wastes.
➳ Caledon Estate Manager Kamilah Hauptmann has joined the ranks of The Wastelands’ Management, and our own Sandling Honey is now an Estate Manager for Caledon as well.
➳ Keep an eye out for “Crossover” events involving both communities!
➳ The Free Move Program will apply to both estates, so people can transfer their tier from fancy pinky-out Victoriana to feral pinky-eating post-apocalyptery.
➳ Running Caledon should make it possible for Neo to transition out of SL and RL contract work, allowing him to work full-time in SL – making it easier to do more development for The Wastelands.
GAME:
➳ Aeg still only gives Mushroom Quests, since the rebuilds have made various potion ingredients inaccessible.
Halloween Game Content:
➳ Neo has begun work on this year’s Halloween Quest, which will resurrect the very first Quest and expand on it.
➳ To make it more accessible, it may not require a Wastelands HUD or a WL: Pumpkin – but it will have its own HUD.
➳ Pumpkins will still spawn, starting two weeks before Halloween (October 17.)
➳ There may not be a new candy, but everyone may get a free random draw from all possible past candies.
➳ The Candy Ghoul ((Sandusky Kayvon)) may not be available to vend candies this year, but will be chucking treats at corpses in spirit.
ROLEPLAY & EVENTS:
➳ Thanks to all who attended or performed for the RONDYVOO on Saturday, September 16!
➳ Bartleby the storyteller did indeed return, and will head out again after the next Bazaar.
➳ After half a moon, Apo returned from the Deep Tunnels, escorted by Malice – and seemingly very sick: mottled skin, a bad cough, severe thirst, hallucinations. While she did recover, and did not in fact go Ghoul, she still seems to be seeing things sometimes…
➳ Drifter aims to continue his longform Friday features on alternate weeks – the next one being LA ROUE.
➳ October’s Wasted Raiders incursion will be to Caledon, to help build “rapport.” Don some steampunk finery or come as you are!
➳ Mayo has resurrected her old cinema in Bitter Ridge – though it’s unsure if she’ll be hosting movies there.
➳ Some people who have been hesitant to RP may be giving it a try soon – and there are old returning Wastelanders who may be back on the scene, as well…
➳ Reminder: The roleplay character template has been added to the Wiki – add yours today! Or review it to see who’s who and get some ideas for interactions.
Halloween Activities:
➳ Trigger Treat, The Wastelands’ Halloween party, will take place on Saturday, October 28! Anyone interested in DJing can contact Apo.
➳ Trick-Or-Treat scripts will work again this October 30-November 1 for any landowner who wants to give out goodies at their parcel.
➳ Make sure to give Neo a notecard with your Trick-Or-Treat dispenser locations so he can give out a notecard with all the treat sites.
➳ The Long Night, and the Black Rider, will also return on October 31.
➳ Neo is hosting weekly Saturday Morning Spooktacular films at the Drive-In.
➳ Gomi’s movie and musical choices this month are all spooky, as well.

NeoBokrug Elytis: I had owed Desmond some long overdue favors for all the help he had given me in the early days of The Wastelands, and I finally broke his wil~ He finally accepted my offer to fix his tier meters. I know the guy doesn’t have much time these days, but the way he did stuff with regard to tier was a huge time sink. So I have been beating him about the brow to accept my help. So we did that.
NeoBokrug Elytis: And that was late August, before Labor Day weekend. I think going around from parcel to parcel to replace everything made him think about Caledons future.
Sandling Honey: The Wastelands does do that to people
NeoBokrug Elytis: So he offered it to me. I am in a way, his disciple as far as running estates go. It took me a while to think about it; and we had always joked about The Wastelands being some alternate future for Caledon. I am sure most of you have seen the easter eggs laying about.
NeoBokrug Elytis: There was no sale, he just handed it all to me, tier reserve and all.
NeoBokrug Elytis: So the past month for me, has been handling the transition, and getting to know folks there.

It technically doesn’t work as is anymore, and it would be nice to have a modular system where I can recyle old quests… maybe on demand.

NeoBokrug Elytis: So for a long time, years now, I used to do “Solution Provider Work”, which is basically I do contract work for others. Much of this “work” is looking for work, addressing the questions of potential contacts, and probably half of the actual work. After the pandemic opportunities fell off a cliff. I was fielding more questions than actual billable hours.

NeoBokrug Elytis: At the start of this year I took a break from it, and I have been doing meatspace contract work. Both SL and RL contract work sort of take me away from the fun work in SL — specifically The Wastelands.
NeoBokrug Elytis: And while it seems that also taking on Caledon is counter-intuitive; it isn’t. I don’t have to mentally shift gears as often, so I can stay focused on the work here. If that makes sense to everyone else. :)
