A large number of Wastelanders turned out for this weekend’s War Zone with an impressive first-time appearance by a recently noticed wanderer to our settlement. Kaenor Braveheart quickly acquired attention a week or so ago as one of the first scavengers to discover one of the orange-glowing fragments that have set the Wastelands buzzing with activity. Keeping a low profile during this time, he made an appearance to join other scavengers in the evening’s event of bloodshed and battle.
The Tin Man divided the eager combatants up into two teams for a best of three ten-minute Capture the Flag battles.
Team One was Dassina Andel and Psycho Baroque of the Renegades, VoidTraveler Seetan of the Scarabs, Aki Shichiroji of the Post-Apocalyptic Press and Kaenor Braveheart. The captain for Team One was Dassina Andel.
Team Two was Patrice Cournoyer and Robin Varriale of the Renegades, Aposiopesis Fullstop and Raze Repine of the Trade Post, biche Xue of the Scarabs, and Tsukiko Dreamscape. Team Two’s captain was Robin Varriale.
For the first battle of Capture the Flag, the newcomer, Kaenor Braveheart, snatched the flag for Team One. He deftly avoided the dogged persistence of Team Two as they chased him across the region and back to the Potato Farm. After what seemed an eternity, he was taken down by Aposiopesis who grabbed the flag only to fall from her wounds shortly thereafter. Robin was quick to react though, taking up the flag, but not for long. Within seconds, he also succumbed to Team One’s assault and Dassina reclaimed the flag for her team. Dassina’s run added even further time to Team One’s possession, reinforcing their victory which Kaenor apparently cemented by holding on to the flag for more than five minutes.
In the second battle, Aposiopesis, a War Zone veteran, grabbed the burning flag for Team Two and held on to it for quite some time. Once again, the scavengers were surprised by the newcomer when Kaenor managed to knock out Apo and raised the flag for Team One. The remainder of the battle was very brutal. Kaenor took up a secure position at the Garrison where we stood unnoticed for a long time, guarded by his teammates. Eventually, the weakened Team Two regrouped to lay siege to the Garrison… only to be decimated by Team One. Kaenor eventually snuck away from the structure as fights raged behind him, with Aki and Dassina continuing to watch his back. Team One remained victorious for this battle, securing victory for this evening’s War Zone.
Afterwards, the Tin Man ushered the fighters into the Potato Farm for a very long and brutal “last-scavenger-standing” battle. At the end of the chaos, Robin Varriale remained…winner of this final free-for-all. For the War Zone victors, NeoBokrug presented a heaping platter of bullets and medkits, garnished by two boards-with-nails, to Dassina Andel. The proud tigress eagerly handed out the winnings to her team-mates before the majority of those assembled trekked to the Chaoseum for a meeting among the Wastelands scavengers regarding current events.
