Community Meeting: April 30, 2020

Below is a short summary of the latest Community Meeting, followed by its chat logs – which have been gently edited for formatting, to put questions and answers in bold for easy skimming, and to omit greetings and farewells and other such asides.  Meetings are hosted by Estate owner NeoBokrug Elytis at 2:00 pm on the last Saturday of every month at The Potato Farm in The Wastelands, and the discussion is typically divided into three main topics: Estate, Game, and Roleplay & Events.  Everyone is welcome to attend!


LAND:
➳ There’s been a small uptick in occupancy – probably as people come back to visit while stuck at home.
➳ Occupancy has not grown enough to meet the goal set at the end of last year, however.
➳ Neo may have to consider making changes to the estate, but will let everyone know if and when it becomes necessary.
➳ Continue to stay home and safe!
Environment Enhancement Project (EEP):
➳ EEP is now live on main release viewers!
➳ A “dark zone” will be created at a designated altitude. Want a dark cave, bunker, or other underground build? Build it in the dark zone and set a TP point at ground level!
➳ A new basic Day Cycle will be created.
➳ Vote in the #announcements channel of the Discord on whether you want it to be one day cycle in every one realworld 24 hours, or two day cycles in every one realworld 24 hours.
➳ If there are two day cycles, they may not both be 6-hour days and 6-hour nights.

GAME:
Environment Enhancement Project (EEP):
➳ Once the new base Day Cycle is created, Neo will see if he can make an LSL-driven, weather system that affects anyone who’s opted into the Experience.
➳ It will still be possible to opt-out or to set your own client-side Windlight settings if you need to customize them for building, for accessibility, etc.
➳ Purple mushroom effects, Omega Cone effects, and death effects will be updated to use EEP.
➳ EEP-driven effects will not be optional while HUDded.
Upcoming Critter Updates:
➳ Neo has worked on a new pathing system that will be used for the various critters of The Wastelands.
➳ Buzzard logic may be re-examined to make sure they properly attack those who leave the region mid-fight – and keep them from leaving the region, themselves.
➳ A new wave of zombie tests may be in our future…
Miscellaneous:
➳ The two new weapons are ready to be coded and released, whenever Neo finds time amid these other small projects.
➳ Revival Day has come and gone!  Nests no longer spawn, and Scythejaw no longer trades for painted Revival Eggs.
➳ Neo’s work on the nest spawn will also be applied to the Wild Plants system.
➳ Neo is investigating whether it might be possible to make crates, etc. spawn on player-owned land – but only on their actual terrain, not in their homes.

ROLEPLAY & EVENTS:
➳ Neo has tweaked the Burnt Oak stream so that the pre-show ads are now randomized.
➳ The Red Revival took place, featuring an in-character sermon and much out-of-character media.  Many thanks to all who attended and performed!
➳ PROMAGEDDON, The Wastelands’ Prom, will happen on Saturday, May 30!
➳ Mutant Drum Circles still take place every Monday.  May’s RP drum circle will happen on the 4th!
➳ Booze & Blather RP meetups happen every Thursday!
➳ Apo has made a series of character creation helpers that are in the final phases of testing.  If you’d like to try them out and give your feedback, let her know!

NeoBokrug Elytis: Occupancy has remained steady and has gone up a little. I suspect it’s a little bit of spring growth, and a little bit OH GOD I AM STUCK AT HOME BORED.

NeoBokrug Elytis: EEP is live now. I will be designating an elevation that is “the dark zone” for each residential region that isn’t The Sand Seas. Hopefully I can make it a uniform elevation that is something like 3500m up in the sky to 4000m up. That way people can build underground interiors or caves that have super dark areas where light sources would be best used.

NeoBokrug Elytis: The next task for EEP and the estate is to make a complete day cycle. Currently there’s a vote on discord where it looks like it’s going to be 2 SL days to one RL day, so that people can have the opportunity to experience a night and day cycle depending on where you live in meatspace

NeoBokrug Elytis: Once the estate wide EEP day cycle is done, I will be progamming an LSL powered one that will affect anyone who’s opted into the experience. This experience powered one will hopefully render realistic weather patterns.

NeoBokrug Elytis: Right now I am playing with rain/snow/sand emitters for those extreme days.

NeoBokrug Elytis: It’s also allowed me to possibly do something that I’ll talk about more when we get to the game section of discussion.
NeoBokrug Elytis: Occupancy still hasn’t met the second goal of what I had set out to do near the end of last year. And now that contract work is almost at an end with no other work in sight, I may have to consider making changes to the estate. I will let everyone know if and when that happens. I hope that occupancy continues to grow, but I’ve gotta be a realist on this.

NeoBokrug Elytis: I am still exploring other things, such as scripted systems for merchants as a small boost to help the estate — but that’s pretty niche.
NeoBokrug Elytis: I have also been working on the Burnt Oak stream, so that it’s less the same intro every time. I am doing research into a project where I can let ANY current resident use an audio stream for free for 8 hours, as a perk to owning land here.

NeoBokrug Elytis: Everything at the dark zone elevation will be dark, like the Long Night of Halloween dark. It’s meant for caves and basements where SL lighting can really shine to make a place nice.

II. THE GAME

Candide LeMay: CC are you talking about when hudded or in general? in general the client still allows you to set whatever sky you want no?

Aposiopesis Fullstop: Because there are people who might have visual impairments, etc., who’d need to have a way to give themselves settings they could see in.
BlackWidow Sinister: I have a dedicated Windlight I can toggle on at any time.
Candide LeMay: experience = script = hud?
NeoBokrug Elytis: The client will always allow you to do what you want. However I think because I’ll be using LSL to change things with the power of an experience — whenever the region weather changes it’ll override what you set.
Candide LeMay: i’m fine with the experience controlling the weather if i’m hudded
NeoBokrug Elytis: It won’t be a HUD. I think I am just going to have an opt-out terminal with the default estate cycle at the region level. The scripted version will override that unless you don’t opt-out.

NeoBokrug Elytis: Working on the weather emitter system, I think I found a way I could have crates and the like spawn on players lands. The limitation would be that it would ONLY spawn on actual terrain land.

NeoBokrug Elytis: The reason I don’t do it now mostly, is because I would get absolutely wrecked with my IMs capping out with object returns.

NeoBokrug Elytis: I know enough tricks to determine when I can rez things on lands, and if a parcel has auto returned enabled. I’ve built small system to kind of measure when objects get returned and adjusted.
Aposiopesis Fullstop: What would keep it from spawning on the land below somebody’s bunker? Would it know where the prims were on top of it (and is that why you figured that out when trying to plan for weather effects that are blocked by roofs and the like?)

NeoBokrug Elytis: I think the limit would be: There’s got to be open sky above the object and reasonably clear around it — AND it would only spawn on actual terrain.

III. THE ROLEPLAY
