Below is a short summary of the latest Community Meeting, followed by its chat logs – which have been gently edited for formatting, to put questions and answers in bold for easy skimming, and to omit greetings and farewells and other such asides. Meetings are hosted by Estate owner NeoBokrug Elytis at 2:00 pm on the last Saturday of every month at The Potato Farm in The Wastelands, and the discussion is typically divided into three main topics: Estate, Game, and Roleplay & Events. Everyone is welcome to attend!
Environment Enhancement Project (EEP):
➳ The “dark zone” layer has been created at 3000m to 3500m, for all your “underground” building needs.
➳ The infrastructure caves and tunnels have been moved to this dark layer, and they feature always-active torch bins.
➳ The crypts of The Rot now have their own EEP feature to make them dark.
➳ The #announcements channel vote on Discord has concluded, and the new Wastelands Day Cycle will have two inworld day cycles to every 24 realworld hours.
➳ On the to-do list for the day cycle: a custom moon with moon phases.
HUD-Compatible Ladders and Teleports:
➳ Neo has created Experience-based teleport features to connect your ground-level builds to your dark-layer skybox, just like the infrastructure caves and tunnels – and it won’t break the HUD. Available free to residents – just ask Neo!
➳ The Devs have also created the WLPW: Ladder Climbing System, a new low-script, low-lag way to clamber up and down. Also HUD-compatible, also free to residents – find it in the tier payment area near the auto-pay mailboxes and donation plates!
➳ A version with rope- or vine-climbing animations is in the works.
➳ A new death effect is now in the game! Instead of seeing black when you’re knocked out, you’ll still see the world around you – only it will all be a misty and indistinct grey-white.
➳ The RP weather system is back! On HUDding up or clicking the HUD, you’ll see flavor text describing the current time, temperature, and weather conditions.
➳ Many more temperature descriptions will be added to the game soon to provide more nuance.
➳ The goal is still to integrate RP weather with the day cycle, scripting it so that tweaks to visibility, cloud cover, etc. can be made on the fly.
➳ EEP currently does not allow all of the environmental settings to be changed via scripts – but the JIRA for this issue has been reopened, triaged, and accepted
➳ Neo has been working more on the Wild Plants system, and it should hopefully be ready for beta testing in a few months.
➳ Areas of soil will appear, and players will be able to enrich that soil in some way before planting a crop.
➳ The Wild Plants system will use the RP Weather system: different plants will thrive in different regions and in different amounts of moisture and shade.
➳ Players will be able to perform some sort of actions to contribute to the growth of the plant .
➳ With ideal weather conditions and ideal contributions, plants will take approximately one week to mature.
➳ When the plant is mature, those who’ve contributed to the plant will be notified and will be able to gather their share of the harvest.
➳ The Wild Plants system will lead to an eventual domestic plants system of personal crops.
➳ The two new weapons are ready to be coded and released, whenever Neo finds time amid these other projects.
➳ There are occasional teleport suspensions when navigating the Sand Seas. Send Neo the SLURL of the places where it happens and he can better investigate.
➳ Neo teased a potential major surprise that is “pending approval” and that, if approved, would take precedence over the RP wing, Wild Plants, and Burnt Oak rebuild.
ROLEPLAY & EVENTS:

➳ Apo is looking to gather information about the thematic cults, faiths, and other belief systems of The Wastelands – ideally, through a series of in-character interviews for the Press. ➳ Neo is working on a project that would put roleplay characters on the Wiki, and it may go live within the week.

NeoBokrug Elytis: Last month I spoke of upcoming EEP changes, to which we’ve decided upon some things. We have the Dark Layer at 3000 to 3500 meters up in the air. Unfortunately you won’t be able to see it unless you have a viewer that supports EEP. Firestorm does not support EEP yet, but the LL viewer does.

NeoBokrug Elytis: Now with all the EEP spaces and EEP changes, I had to change all the torches just a little to account for that.
NeoBokrug Elytis: While doing so I noticed that the old day cycle doesn’t quite match up with the regular day cycle.
NeoBokrug Elytis: But once EEP is in firestorm I think everyone will be on the same page.
BlackWidow Sinister: can we pick up a torch in the dark areas now? I tried to get one in the Caves and got the message I didn’t need one while the sun was up.
NeoBokrug Elytis: Now that we have the dark zones for regions, anyone who’s been a resident for a while can ask for an Experience based teleport from me, to have your tunnels and stairwells connect to a build in the sky of the dark space.
NeoBokrug Elytis: Which cave was that? I will look into it. It should be following the EEP cycle.

NeoBokrug Elytis: Yes, anyone who’s been a resident for a while can ask for a “seamless” scripted teleport.
NeoBokrug Elytis: It will take me some time to do measurements and get it set up, so I expect at least the connecting bits to be “set in stone” as far as the build goes.
NeoBokrug Elytis: These teleports DO work with the game HUD, so they won’t break.
NeoBokrug Elytis: The benefit of the dark layer is that you won’t have to fight too much with terraforming, and that you’ll have a bit more space to work with in the sky — AND most importantly it’s dark.
NeoBokrug Elytis: Actual Linden Light sources look nice when used properly.
Storm Thunders: and you can link up your cave to someone else’s who isn’t a direct neighbor with it.

NeoBokrug Elytis: Aki and I also worked on a ladder system to replace the old ladder systems across the estate. They’re very old and actually really hard on server resources. They were made in a time where that was the “best” way to do it. Since then we have a lot more functions and events to play with, so I knew something better could be done.
Irk (shannonwilsonbell): It works great, too.
NeoBokrug Elytis: The old systems were clocking in as high as 0.556ms of script time, not to mention the full object updates for movine.
NeoBokrug Elytis: Where as the new system is 0.002 at it’s worst.
NeoBokrug Elytis: I did the math and some of the older systems — if you rezzed 23 pairs that would be ALL the script time for that region.

NeoBokrug Elytis: I think there’s a total of 4 distinct older systems that are used on the estate for ladders and vines/ropes
NeoBokrug Elytis: Aki is still working on rope animations as well.
NeoBokrug Elytis: All of these systems will be free for residents, they TOO also work with the HUD, provided that you “sit” on the object when you’re near it.
NeoBokrug Elytis: Once Aki and I have a nice solid foundation we’ll be making them for sale to the general public, with a lot more configurable options, but without the game HUD stuff.
NeoBokrug Elytis: And I should also mention they take 1 hour to “setup” for use with the game HUD — this is to prevent some potential abuse. :P
NeoBokrug Elytis: Back to EEP real quick, we’re still working on a day cycle for the estate.

NeoBokrug Elytis: That is a to-do project for me. There’s some issues to suss out on my end before I can finish it. Sandusky and I have done lots of experimentation, but EEP may just be what we need for it.

NeoBokrug Elytis: It will be evened out as was voted on the discord. 2 whole days per 1 RL day with even day and night times.

II. THE GAME
NeoBokrug Elytis: EEP and RP weather are hopefully going to be in sync. RP weather is something I spent some time on and rebuilt it over the course of about a week. Right now it’s very basic, but it works BETTER than what it was before. It is not the same location because that is hit or miss with the new API, but the weather data is by the minute now instead of by the hour.
NeoBokrug Elytis: I have a list of new temperature descriptions now, so that will be a bit more fleshed out in time instead of the simple six we have.
NeoBokrug Elytis: LL had some HTTPS errors where SSL certs were failing on their end, that broke weather for a day, and I made a quick work-around to fix it.
CorpseGarden: we have six temps?

NeoBokrug Elytis: Haha yeah for now. The word descriptors will change to probably triple that or so, however the graphic will not.

BlackWidow Sinister: Some people don’t get online that much.
NeoBokrug Elytis: It will require minor EXP to take care of them, there will be cooldown timers, and they’re a group effort to take care of. Some things might require a salvage component to help the plant along.

NeoBokrug Elytis: Especially on bad weather days or growing in unfavorable regions.
NeoBokrug Elytis: I am going to try to have a beta out to test this in the next month or two, it will not give any rewards, but it also won’t cost anything. You’ll get an idea of how the system works and I can watch it for weather screwups.

NeoBokrug Elytis: On paper, it’s very done. Large parts of the code are also very done. Interaction menus are not, hooked up to the weather is not.
NeoBokrug Elytis: But basically something will spawn someplace on the estate, a dirt patch. You do a thing to make the dirt better, you plant a crop thing to tell it what to make. Then from there on out it tries to grow.

NeoBokrug Elytis: EEP death effects are in. I wanted to update the other current HUD overlay effects we have in the game but some very vital scripted portions were left out. I went to an LL server meeting and asked for it to be looked at. LL re-opened the JIRA, triaged it, and put it into the accepted queue. No one knows if and when it’ll make it into the server, could be 1-2 months at the fastes.
NeoBokrug Elytis: With those missing components I want to do overlays for the estate daycycle to reflect the weather.
