Below is a short summary of the latest Community Meeting, followed by its chat logs – which have been gently edited for formatting, to put questions and answers in bold for easy skimming, and to omit greetings and farewells and other such asides. Meetings are hosted by Estate owner NeoBokrug Elytis at 2:00 pm on the first Saturday of every month at The Potato Farm in The Wastelands, and the discussion is typically divided into three main topics: Estate, Game, and Roleplay & Events. Everyone is welcome to attend!
ESTATE:
➳ Tier prices have been increased by about 6% to help compensate for the sales tax now being applied to service-based fees.
➳ Efforts continue on the Northgate Community Gateway: Neo’s still working on the visual-based HUD and on some of the builds.
➳ Want to contribute? Do you make mesh, textures, or other content? The Wastelands Public Works program is still accepting volunteers!
➳ Rumor has it that Linden Lab is considering adding new types of regions, including an “events” region that allows up to 200 avatars. If any new region types exist and seem viable for The Wastelands, Neo will look into them.
➳ Per a resident’s suggestion, Neo is considering having tier reminders come through IM instead of Local Chat. There were no objections, so he’ll consider it.
➳ Since Flickr has tightened its rules regarding which users can post Moderate and Restricted content, Neo asked whether the The Wastelands in Second Life and/or the Second Life – The Wastelands & Post Apocalyptic groups should be set to Safe content only.
➳ The new Firestorm update seems to keep users from seeing the media at Burnt Oak – but there is a client-side workaround. Contact Neo for instructions!
GAME:
➳ Neo inflicted an April Fool’s Day prank where all Common crates contained… well, we can only assume they had once contained beans.
➳ There is another EEP bug where people may see prompts to join The Wastelands Game Experience despite already being part of it.
➳ Game updates are still lower priority than work on Northgate – but are still being worked on when Neo needs a break from those tasks.
➳ Updates still on the agenda include the DoT updates, Wild Plants, the Universal Salvage Script, the Playable Races, and the EXP revamp.
➳ Further EEP updates are on hold until LL squashes more bugs; the DoT updates will be the next fallback focus when not working on Northgate.
➳ Anne Cloud’s new broken moon textures are coming up soon!
ROLEPLAY & EVENTS:
➳ The Red Revival, a Ghoulish celebration of life and death in The Wastelands, returns on Saturday, April 23rd! If you want to DJ – or want to use the occasion to have your character go Ghoul – get in touch with Apo.
➳ And, to help rouse the Ghouls from their sleep, the Red Parade will weave its way through the Wastes at 6pm on Friday, April 22nd.
➳ WL: Eggs will be spawning in nests from Friday the 15th through Sunday the 17th – and Scythejaw will once again have painted Revival Eggs to trade!
➳ Some of the Starfleet roleplayers have been dropping by again. Those interactions may or may not be canonical – but are often fun!

NeoBokrug Elytis: Last month tier prices went up for pretty much the first time ever, the last time they went up was for significant prim use upgrades that everyone got. This time was to somewhat compensate for local sales tax here.
Memory Harker: *nods*
NeoBokrug Elytis: I can’t promise that there won’t be future raises on tier, but I am doing what I can to keep it fair for residents and myself.
NeoBokrug Elytis: We’ll see what happens in meatspace regarding taxes, the economy, and all the other stuff we typically avoid here.

NeoBokrug Elytis: I have heard rumors that LL is working on more different types of region offerings — now that AWS is kind of settled. If they are beneficial and practical, I will do the same thing I did with when the prim upgrades happened; which is ask the potentially affected residents and have a vote about it.
NeoBokrug Elytis: But for now, 30k regions and homesteads for everyone.
NeoBokrug Elytis: I have been playing around with EEP settings more, and finding more bugs that are — sadly unique to our current setup as a multi-region micro-continent.

NeoBokrug Elytis: Not really. The only thing I heard was there was an option for an “events” region that could possibly hold up to 200 avatars.

NeoBokrug Elytis: But, at the same time it opens up possibilities for other region types.

NeoBokrug Elytis: One thing a resident recently suggested to me, was that I have the bot IM them about tier reminders. This way it shows up in a window rather than a local chat message. Is there any particular reason folks would be opposed to that?

NeoBokrug Elytis: A lof of folks take pictures here and Flickr recently changed their maturity rating allowances for account types.
Aposiopesis Fullstop: Hmm. IM windows can sometimes get buried – though not as bad as in Ye Olde Days. But it’s not as if Local Chat can’t also get lost in the hubbub, too. IMs capping could be an issue, but… if someone hasn’t logged in so their IMs cap, they wouldn’t be seeing local either?
NeoBokrug Elytis: Bot IMs and Object IMs are part of the same cap.

NeoBokrug Elytis: My question about flickr is that … do I need to be aware of doing anything special for our flickr groups? I think I can just leave the main one to allow moderate images, and the “all of SL apocalypse” one to safe.
NeoBokrug Elytis: Or should I make them both “safe”?
Aposiopesis Fullstop: I think having at least one Moderate would be wise. I’ve had it flag a few things as Moderate for no clear reason – a rad pic of Akiko juggling knives got dinged, for instance, and I can only guess it was for the “promoting self-harm” rule? And I think even some of the zombies are too unsafe for Safe.

NeoBokrug Elytis: I poked aroung at the universal salvage script a bit, because even though we got our region performance back — I put a ton of effort in to that, and it would be beneficial to future region issues. Many scripts I have are still not fully migrated from LSLFOrge to Sublime Text.

NeoBokrug Elytis: Yeah, it’s a bit of a hacky work-around and I will share it with those who attend Burnt Oak sessions, but the simplest and safest work-around is to just get VLC and watch it in another window while SL is going on in the background.
Aposiopesis Fullstop: BUT MY IMMERSION.
NeoBokrug Elytis: I haven’t had a lot of contract work in the past year, so I have been doing non-SL work, which means I haven’t been in SL as much as I want to be. I am not getting as much game stuff done as I want to. I still have to leverage the new DoTs system that’s done but doing literally nothing. I still have to work on Wild Plants. I still have to make the universal Salvage Script a thing, and I still have to work on Northgate. Right now my focus is on Northgate.
NeoBokrug Elytis: If I am not in the mood for it I will work on DoTs, as I am rather tired of trying to get the EEP region settings to cooperate. Anne Cloud has a WIP set of textures done. So we should have a new moon soon-ish. :)
